Social Highlights
Opening Reception
The opening reception is included in the conference registration fee. Further details will be posted soon!
Conference Dinner
Join us for the conference dinner at Eastern Divide Brewing, a local brewery and restaurant at the outskirts of Blacksburg, featuring regional drinks and local food specialties. The brewery's name is inspired by Blacksburg's geographical location on the continental divide, where water on one side drains toward the Atlantic Ocean, while water on the opposite side flows toward the Mississippi River. Enjoy the casual-style dinner with stimulating conversations and delicious food amidst the charming ambiance of the Appalachian region.
The surcharge for the conference dinner includes a shuttle service offering convenient transportation to and from the event venue.
Excursion
Three different options are available for the excursion. The surcharge for this event includes a shuttle service to the respective locations and a lunch meal.
Option 1: Cascade Falls
This moderate hike will lead you through some of the most gorgeous scenery of the Appalachians to a 69-foot-tall waterfall.
Hike length: 3.7 miles
Elevation gain: 718 ft
Hike duration: 1.5–2 hours
Option 2: Angel's Rest
This strenuous hike along a scenic section of the famous Appalachian Trail offers breathtaking, panoramic views of the region.
Hike length: 4.1 miles
Elevation gain: 1525 ft
Hike duration: 3–3.5 hours
Option 3: Mountain Lake Lodge
Enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the hotel from the movie Dirty Dancing, the perfect setting to unwind with a drink and reflect on life.
This excursion contains an optional light hike to Bald Knob offering another chance for great views.
Hike length: 0.8 miles
Elevation gain: 410 ft
